Columbia, Mo.,–Scott Phillips, chairman of the Missouri Pork Association (MPA), announced Dr. Ron Plain at the recipient of the annual Chairman’s Award during the 2016 Missouri Pork Expo on February 9.
Dr. Plain recently retired from the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he was D. Howard Doane Professor and an Extension Economist in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics. He served as program leader for extension within the department and was a faculty member at MU since 1981. His areas of expertise include livestock marketing, farm business management and swine production.
Since coming to the University of Missouri, Ron has made over 2,100 presentations to farm audiences across the country and has authored over 500 published materials. Dr. Plain has served as president of the Extension Section of the American Agricultural Economics Association and has had agricultural experience in 16 foreign countries.
“Dr. Plain has been a great asset to the Missouri Pork Association,” said Phillips. “The pork industry, and all of agriculture, will miss his insight into the economics of our state.”
Each year, the MPA Chairman presents the award to a key individual for their support of the pork industry, the Association and its members.
The 2016 Missouri Pork Expo was held February 9-10 in Columbia. Pork producers from across the state enjoyed a trade show, producer education sessions and guest speakers.
