Ham Takes Center Stage this Easter

Consumer Sweepstakes Rewards Those Grabbing Easter to Go

Columbia, Mo.,—With Easter just days away, Missourians may be wondering how to make the most of their Sunday meal. Some may be preparing the traditional Easter ham for the very first time. Others may choose to order Easter dinner from a local restaurant offering to-go service. And we’ve got the tips to help make your celebration a success.

Easter at Home

For those choosing to stay home, there are numerous ways to prepare your ham. Start by choosing either a bone-in or boneless ham. While bone-in hams are more traditional and elegant, boneless are much easier to serve. Bone-in will typically serve two to three people per pound and can be spiral cut for easier table service. Boneless hams will yield four to five servings per pound. While a typical ham will serve much more than the normal family size, the options for leftover ham are endless. Go beyond the typical ham sandwich with recipes like Ham and Cheese Muffins, Ham Jambalaya, Ham and Rigatoni Casserole and more.

Most hams come fully cooked and can be served cold. If you prefer to heat your ham, simply unwrap and heat to an internal temperature of 140 degrees Fahrenheit. If you purchase an uncooked ham, heat to an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit, about 20-30 minutes per pound in a 350 degree oven.

You’ll also need to choose how to cook your ham. From oven to smoker to crock pot to Instant Pot, cooking methods come in many forms. Try this Sweet Southern Slow Cooker Ham in the crock pot, or Spiced Grilled Ham with Citrus Glaze on the grill.
