The Missy North Memorial Scholarship

The Missy North Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the late Missy North, wife of Missouri pork producer Bob North. She loved raising pigs, and was very active in the industry. Bob and his family are making the scholarship available to a deserving student aspiring to play a role in the pork industry. They are partnering with the Missouri Pork Association to select candidates. A scholarship in the amount of $2,500 will be awarded at the Missouri Pork Expo on February 7, 2017.

 

An online application, two letters of recommendation and academic transcripts are due no later than Friday, January 20, 2017.

 

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for this $2,500 scholarship, applicants must be an undergraduate student attending a two-year Missouri swine program or a four-year Missouri College of Agriculture, majoring in Animal Sciences or a related field and is planning to:

 

  1.  Pursue a career in swine production management or a related field, or attend graduate school and major in one of the following disciplines and/or related disciplines related to the swine industry, with an emphasis on swine:
    • Agriculture
    • Agricultural Business
    • Agriculture Engineering
    • Agronomy
    • Animal Breeding/Genetics/Genomics
    • Animal Physiology
    • Bioinformatics
    • Environmental Science
  2.  Scholarship applicants must be interested in pursuing a career in the pork industry. Preference will be given to applicants affiliated with the pork industry as:
    • Members of a family currently in or associated with pork production.
    • Members of a family associated with allied industry or the marketing segments of the pork industry.
    • Active or past members of industry youth leadership development programs with emphasis on swine.
    • Having had previous swine-specific internships.
  3. Have a 3.0 Cumulative GPA or better.

 

Application Information

 

An online application form is below. Only individuals that complete the online application form and provide all support materials prior to the application deadline will be considered. Support materials required for a complete application include:

 

  1.  Two letters of recommendation.
    • Letters of support must come form non-family members. Counselors, employers, mentors, academic advisors, industry professionals, etc.
      • Professionals or other supporters should submit letters of support via email to Diane Slater at diane@mopork.com.
      • The letter must be in PDF format and the filename must be the last name of the applicant for whom the letter is written.
  2. Academic transcripts (non-official is acceptable)
    • Transcripts should be in PDF format and be sent via email to Diane Slater at diane@mopork.com.
    • Applications will only be considered if the online application form is completed and all support materials are received by the deadline.
