Missouri Agriculture Working Together
Lunch and Learn Event in Golden City
Columbia, Mo.,— On Friday, November 6, community members of Golden City met for a Lunch and Learn at Dan Scott’s Farm Service. Around 25 community members and business leaders meet to enjoy good food and good speakers. They talked about the importance of animal agriculture and the pork industry.
Topics discussed included the economic impact of the pork industry on the community and how Missouri’s pork industry is “Committed to Our Communities.” Francis Forst of Syngery said “in total, Syngery annually contributes $10 million to the surrounding communities.”
Animal agriculture is very important in Missouri. According to the United States Department of Agriculture and University of Missouri, Missouri ranks 7th in the nation for swine production. The total economic impact of the Pork industry is near $1.1billion dollars. Over 32,000 direct and supportive jobs are provided by the Missouri pork industry. On a 10 year average, Missouri hogs consume 18% of the corn and 9% of the soybeans produced in the state. This is an important relation between animal agriculture and crop production.
This lunch and learn event is one of many planned across the state this fall. The Lunch and Learn series is supported by: the Missouri Agribusiness Association, Missouri Beef Industry Council, Missouri Cattlemen’s Association, Missouri’s Cattlemen Foundation, Missouri Corn Merchandising Council, Missouri Dairy Association, Midwest Dairy Association, Missouri Department of Agriculture, The Missouri Egg Council, Missouri Farm Bureau, Missouri Pork Association, The Poultry Federation, Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council, and the University of Missouri Extension Commercial Agriculture Program.
The Missouri Pork Association represents the state’s pork producers in the areas of promotion, research, education and legislation.
