Jessica Black Joins Missouri Pork Association
UMC Student Joins MPA as Summer Intern
Columbia, Mo., – This summer, Jessica Black will complete her internship with the Missouri Pork Association. Her primary responsibilities will include producer and consumer education.
After starting with MPA on May 12, she hit the ground running with projects—planning the Youth Pork Institute, a Lunch and Learn, and legislative tracking. She also spent a week in Des Moines, Iowa with the National Pork Board and attended the World Pork Expo. She is now planning the MPA Pork Classic Golf Tournament, a second Lunch and Learn event, and the MPA Veterinary Seminar. And soon, she will be working on events for the Missouri State Fair, including many events in the Swine Pavilion, contests with 4-H members, and conducting cooking demonstrations in the Consumer Showcase.
“Working for MPA has been a great opportunity for me,” Black said. “I grew up in the show ring and fell in love with the pork industry. MPA has given me the chance to experience all sides of pork production.”
Black is currently a senior at the University of Missouri, studying agriculture education and agriculture economics. She will complete her undergraduate coursework in May, 2009, and plans to pursue a career within the agriculture industry.
She has been involved in the pork industry all her life, showing hogs at jackpot shows, county fairs, national shows and the Missouri State Fair. Black is the daughter of Rusty and Karie Black of Chillicothe, Mo. She is a 2005 graduate of Chillicothe High School in Chillicothe, Mo. where she was an active member in the FFA Organization and local community.
