120 students attended the 6th annual In the Show Ring session. Dr.
Kenneth Ferrell with MFA was one of many speakers. Students
were given Show Me Quality Assurance Certification for attending. The
session was sponsored by OBC Genetics. |
Abby
Strickland from Jackson was the grand prize winner for the In the Show
Ring Scavenger hunt, sponsored by FCS Financial. Over 30 prizes were
handed out. |
The
Expo hosted the FFA Pork Speaking Contest Finals on February 10,
sponsored by MFA Incorporated. Austin Steele from the Miller FFA
Chapter

Dr.
Steve Meyer with Paragon Economics, presented a swine industry
update to a group of 50 producers and allied industry representatives.

Seventy-six
exhibitors occupied 84
booths at the Expo Center during the 2009 Missouri Pork Expo's trade
show. |
During
the Pork Industry Banquet, David Officer with Alpharma hosted Swine Jeopardy.
Everyone enjoyed the friendly competition, and prizes were handed out to the top
three teams. |
Over
40 items were sold during the live auction. Total, the live and silent
auction raised over $16,000 for the Pork PAC. These funds will support MPA's
legislative and policy efforts. |
Over
120 producers and friends of the industry attended the Pork Industry
Banquet and live auction on February 10. |
The
UPI/Parks representatives enjoyed the Pork Industry Banquet, and placed third in
Swine Jeopardy. UPI/Parks sponsored the beer and soda during the afternoon
hospitality and banquet. |

The
Pork Leadership Breakfast kicked off the morning of February 11, and
featured Mr. Jim Wiesemeyer with Informa Economics in Washington, D.C. He spoke to a group of
70
producers about the changes occurring in our nation's capitol and the
importance of our involvement. |
Members
of the University of Missouri Extension Commercial Agriculture Program,
including Dr. Vern Pierce, presented hot topics to attendees of the
Thursday morning educational session. Darrick Steen with the Missouri
Department of Natural Resources also spoke about new CAFO rules. |
